Where Shall I Search Beneath the Sun?

WHERE SHALL I SEARCH BENEATH THE SUN?

This haunting minor and its first four verses came to me on Aug.15, 2006, but two years would pass before I wrote the bridge after verse 4, and another seven months before I composed the final verse in Jan. of 2009.

In the same way that a song-writer may search, then wait awhile for a fresh perspective, then work again— always looking for a purer phrase of lyrical or
harmonic beauty— so should our hearts be seeking after God.

But WHERE shall we search, to see the Invisible One?  WHERE will we discover the heart and mind of our original Parent more perfectly portrayed?

Thankfully, through multiple millennia God has been revealing Himself— through His created World, and His inspired Word.

With each passing year, we discover new wonders of Creation, and as we read through His Word day by day, we see more of Jesus Christ— the central person and theme of Scripture— made manifest before us!

I wish I could say I intentionally planned the summary aspect of the last verse, but it's something God just gave me, and I LOVE the way it gives practical conclusion to the questions of the song. In the humble but powerful WORD— in the Gospel within the Sacred Scriptures— "is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith" and by every word of that Word, man shall live!

Shall we SEARCH?  Shall we make that wisest of all investments, by delving more deeply into the Ways and Will of our eternal God?

WHERE SHALL I SEARCH BENEATH THE SUN?

Complete Lyrics

WHERE SHALL I SEARCH?

1.Where shall I search, beneath the sun,
Or on the ocean broad?
Through this troubled, mad world I would run,
To a sure benev'lent God.

2.Could I but reach beyond the skies,
Search through unending years,
Perfect childlike peace to realize
With no guilt or doubt or fears.

(not on CD)
3.Glad, would I give all I possess,
All, all I own or am,
To enjoy eternal blessedness
n the Presence of the Lamb.

4.O God, the holy God Thou art,
All-knowing, true, and kind,
Shine Thy Light into my searching heart–
Lord, illuminate my mind.

Bridge:
Dear God, make all things new,
Gladly I follow You,
Faith receiving, Grace believing,
proving You are true;
Pure is Your holy Life, Perfect Your sacrifice,
Good are all Your ways for me,
Your will I will pursue.

5.So shall I search the humble Word,
Revealing God the Son,
Live securely in the Truth I've heard,
Joyous in the Saving One,
Joyous in the Saving One.

Tips... Insights... Song-writing How-to... Critiques... Time-saving Methods... to help make YOU a joyful bard for the Lord.

My best-known songs are probably "Lo, I Come"– composed before I was married– and "Teach Me, O Lord, to Number My Days" which you may have seen in various hymnals. I have many others trying to sneak out of their file folders, to join the march of music around the world.

Some will be introduced here first as just lyrics, to study the crafting of their messages, others will have music mp3 files or videos also.
