In a powerful summary sentence Paul tells us, in Rom. 11:26, that even though they are enemies of the Gospel, "they are beloved for the fathers' sakes." Surely they are a supreme object lesson for us, portraying even today the amazing faithfulness and mercies of our Creator— and the vilest sinner can take hope in those mercies.
From poetic and prophetic passages of sacred Scripture this hymn springs forth to remind us that Yes!— our Heavenly Father still cares about His people, and will protect them for His own glorious purposes. It looks forward in sure triumph of Faith to that coming day when God will be glorified in Israel, as Life and Truth flow out to all nations. This will be a sure work of God, and all men will marvel. Blessed is he who believes. [ Video is downloadable. ]
Like the Mountains Around Jerusalem
I will guard you as My chosen one— you're My darling and My dove;
When your foes would rise against you, evil enemies draw nigh,
I am jealous to defend you, as the apple of Mine eye,
I will hold you in My holiness, bear you up on eagle wings;
When your enemies ensnare you, and would mock your helplessness,
E'er the raging lions tear you, I in blessing you will bless,
Shall proclaim My kingdom of peace,
When My people are exalted,
And all enmity will cease,
I will shelter you with angel wings, to the everlasting hills;
When the arrogant surround you, to defy your ancient claim,
I in fury will uphold you, to the honor of My Name,
Will be playing all unafraid,
When the Honor of My Glory
Will be gloriously displayed,
I will be their Father— I will bless— they forever shall be Mine;
As I clothe you with My favor, all the world will be amazed!
I am Israel's great Savior— and My people will be praised,
Will be prized and precious to Me,
When My warfare is accomplished,
And their strength is all in Me...
When the knowledge of the Father,
Fills the Earth and fills the Sea, the Sea.
